FOM: general intellectual interest of mathematics

The strays far from the mainline of fom and I will not be offended
in the least if you decide it should not be posted.

The Sunday Jan. 16 Chicago Tribune has a poll of high school athletes
(roughly equally male and female).  A plurality (30%) list math as their
favorite subject.  Teaching also had a substantial plurality as preffered
profession.
